Hi band, im sorry for making last minute changes. Hi band!!
Every Saturday, ACSJ will have band practices and seniors (discluding juniors) are strongly encouraged to participate, even if your names are not mentioned. This will not only help you all earn CIP hours (already approved by Mr Francis) and you all can also complete your NYAA booklet.

You are not forced to come, but if you are free and have nothing to do on Saturday, please just sacrifice some time to come and help. STC has always been sending helpers there, so let's help to continue this "tradition" (: plus, this only starts at 9a.m. now, so you all dont need to wake up so early, compared to 8a.m.

Hi band!!!

After such a long break and two more days of zero band practices, i hope you all have relaxed well for thursday's band practice:) By the way, I have a task for everyone.

TASK:
Each section is supposed to submit a minimum of number of questions of the number of people in their section (e.g. trumpets have 6 people, I need a minimum of 6 questions) and please indicate who asked what question.

What are the questions supposed to be about?
The questions should be regarding the pieces (October, Choreography and Howl's Moving Castle) we are playing now (e.g. What is the rhythm like in bar___?)

SLs, please take charge and i need this to be submitted to me through email by wednesday night, 8pm latest. Sections who hand in late work will have to give me two times the number of questions submitted late!!!

Dear sec one, sec two,sec three and sec four band members,

I hope you had fun during the past few weeks of the holidays and that you all also made use of the holidays to brush up on your skills:)
After this period of rest and fun, I hope you will make good use of the remaining days of the holidays to practice!!!
Okay, now i shall tell you what to do:

-At least 5 minutes of buzzing/blowing on your mouthpieces everyday.
Reason: So that you all wont forget your embouchures and drop your standards.

-Long tones on mouthpieces(for those who do not have your instruments) or on your instruments if you have them
Reason: To make sure when you come back your notes do not sound horrible

-Score study+practice Sesame Street and March Together
Reason: So that you all would be able to come for band aware of what you are doing.

Since we did not have any holiday band practices, I expect you all to really practice at home and don't let your standards drop. We are a Gold band, but only your hardwork will ensure that it will remain that way, so don't be complacent!! To all the band members, especially for sec ones, remember to practice your major scales and try and perfect your flaws as I will be testing you when band resumes!
* For those SLs, whose juniors do not have Internet connection, please pass on the information to them.

Hey band members, the holidays are coming soon:D I know most of you are rejoicing that there is no band practice (even though that should not be the case at all), but please do not slack!! I hope all of you will spend this time wisely to study hard and to practice your instrument just as hard!!

Homework for juniors:

1) Four quarter rhythm pattern
2) Long tones
3) Master Bb flat concert and move on to other scales such as Eb, Ab etc...
*any questions, feel free to ask your seniors for help

Homework for seniors:

1) Sesame street theme (Try to finish the entire song, especially bars 1-14)

Hey band,
This is your homework from now till the end of sch holidays.. Please work on Memories, the whole song, and please focus on the way you tongue, dynamics, articulations, phrasing, and the most important is that i want the whole section to have the same interpretation. Also, please note that your auditions will be on the day when band resumes. To all SLs/ ASLs/ section rep (if both sl and asl are overseas) please hand in a report to me on the progress of your section members. All SLs the FORMAT of handing in your report is writing EACH AND EVERY member's progress, strength and weakness and what is your section strength and weakness and when band resumes, what are you going to do for sectionals and how are you going to improve those weak points. If any of the report dosen't tally and is not up to standard, i will make all the SLs read the report out loud in front of the band and put the report on the band bulletin board.
ALSO, PLEASE SUBMIT THIS BY 1ST JANUARY 2011!!!

Band, Auditions are also coming, so if you want to play in syf, please work hard.. I know that everyone wants to maintain the SIBF standard, but if we are going to continue to play and not know when to be serious, i doubt we can even achieve a Bronze. Is this what you guys want?? I'm sure you all want something better right?? So, show me that you all work hard and you all need to follow your goals, and if the conductor or your seniors tell you that something is wrong, accept it humbly and change it. It's for your own good. (: When band resumes, i hope the standard improved and not deteriorate. Its like climbing Mount Everest. Work hard and i am sure that you guys can get what you all really want.

And for the Sec 1s, you all are no longer the baby of the band, you all are going to be seniors. Please work 100000000Xs harder and show us that you all can do it. For the Sec 2s, you all are going to be the seniors of the seniors of the band. You all are going to hold main posts and do lead the band well. This is also going to be your 1st syf. Don't feel scared or stress, as you still have your seniors to lead you. But do remember that this is only going to be for the time being, after that, you are all alone, and it is your duty to lead the band and show them the correct path to walk. Work Hard (:

As for the Sec 3s, this will be your final syf. Do work hard and you all should already know how it feels like, since we went through the 1st one together. After this, you guys will stand down for your O levels and N levels. Its going to be the same as the 1st syf and SIBF. You guys should know it more than anyone else. Please do work hard and lead your juniors for the last time. After that, you will not have any more opportunities to lead them. Lead them well and in one blink you will realize how you missed it. So, here are the things to bring for band camp..

Things to bring for BAND CAMP 2010.

1. Undergarments - for 3 days 2 nights
2. Medication - Your own medication if you have.
3. Toiletries - e.g. Toothbrush/paste, shampoo... Whatever you need.
4. 2 PE Shirts - YOG/Team Theresian/House/PE shirt is allowed, as long as it has the school logo.
5. PE Shorts - STRICTLY NO FBTS ALLOWED!!!
6. 1 Set of school uniform
7. Sleeping Bag - Compulsory!
8. 2 Sets of sleeping attire - NO FBTS & REVEALING CLOTHES ALLOWED!!!
9. Jacket / Wind breaker
10. Towels
11. Utensils (e.g.spoon, cup, fork)
12. Slippers - Only for bathing time.
13. Plastic bags / Ziplock bags - For dirty clothes, etc..
14. Bring Maximum $20 - For your meals.

1. Practise from bar 1-123 for Flight Of The Piasa, if you can please finish up until the end.
2. Each section must hand in the information on the Piasa, including the picture of it by 7th June.
3. Don't forget to do breathing exercise at home! 24 counts!
4. Work on your dynamics and articulations (MAST).

Sec 1s;
1. Practise all four scales, including your chords.
2. Long tones (Max 24 counts)
3. Chromatic scales (1-4 in IReccomend)
4. Practise the whole song for Mumbo Jumbo.
5. You can try Flight of the Piasa and In the winter of 1730s if you can play mumbo jumbo (:

BAND CAMP 09!

Hi band,
We just got the confirmation from the principal that we would be having the band camp on the 17th of november till 18th november.

So here's the list of things to bring :
- 2 P.E. shirts ( for games and drills )
- 2 pairs of shorts ( No Fbts please )
- 1 school uniform
- Toileteries ( toothbrush ; Soap ; Shampoo ... etc )
- 2 towels ( 1 big and 1 small , for bathing and one more just in case )
- Undergarments ( for the 2 day, 1 night stay )
- Sleeping bag
- Jacket / sweater ( it may get cold since we're sleeping in the auditorium)
- Untensils ( your own fork and spoon for the BBQ)
- water bottle ( it'll be hot, while you run around for the games )
- Medication ( if you have any.. )
- Pajamas
- Slippers (for bathing)
- plastic bags ( to hold your dirty laundry )
- Money ( about $10 for lunch )
- CONSENT FORMS. ( for those who havent handed up. )

Note to SLs / ASLs

Hello everyone,

Note to all Section Leaders

All Section Leaders are to take down all food orders from your individual section to maximize required time to collect. All these will have to be done the day before the actual band practice. The latest you’ll have to collect all the food money is by the morning and pass it to either Linyi or Zihwei.

Each SL will be given an envelope with a piece of paper in it, so that you can either write your orders down on that piece of paper or you can always put in your previously-written order on the other paper you have used for noting down.

Things you have to know:
1. We might not have any extra cash as a change to you. You’ll have to sponsor your own section with necessary extra coins or cash notes to exchange if they give more than the required amount of the cost of food.
2. Unless there are really not enough cash to exchange, you will than ask from the Welfare, but not guaranteed that we will have it.

Please note these 2 points and the previous sentences above the points are very important.
In other words, You will have to manage your money to the correct cost of the overall food money in your section and pass it to Linyi or Zihwei before band starts. This is so that we can limit the time on calculating the cost of food overall in each section, and hence, the delivery will come earlier.

This is done by the welfare heads. SL's / ASL's , please done what is needed.

Hello band!
So here are the Up coming important dates that y'all will need to take note of.

- 20th September 2009 ( wedding performance )

This is for the Ensemble members only (Including Reserves). The scores are to be memorised. The concert would be at the botanic gardens and would last from 4pm to 6pm. From 6pm to 7pm, you can stay to watch the rest of the concert items, or you can also go home.
Details about transport and meals would be given at a later date.
Practise days are on Friday, 2.00 till 4.00. And on SI days. (Those who are not in ensemble are encouraged to come for SI too!)

- 27th September 2009 ( Mass Performance )

This is for 10 selected players, to play in Saint Theresa’s church for mass, songs and additional details would be confirmed soon.
Songs are: Amen and Acclamation

- 4th October 2009 ( Funfair performance)

Hello band,

We Just have a few things that we need y'all to take note of.

Firstly; For the design of the Band-T Please take note that the shirt would be white with a collar. Deadline : Thursday during band practise.

Secondly; there may be a new system for temperature taking that will start on Wednesday, as we feel that it takes too long to record your temperatures during fall in. Instead, a table would be printed out and given to each section so that you can record your temperatures on it.

Thirdly; For All Committee Members :
You are to print out your roles along with a description of your responsibility and what you are supposed to do (something like the proposals), it can be done on coloured paper, or any other A4 sized paper, it can also be decorated as we are going to display it . Each committee group can either come up with one combined with your assistants or, have it done separately. Deadline by Thursday.
If you have any questions please feel free to ask Blossom, Jasmine or Christine.

Lastly; involving clean up. :

1. The area near the percussion's and the Librarian cupboards is getting too messy, Percussion's or/and Librarians, please dispose of any of the unwanted materials and clean up that area, you can this during SI.

2. There are things on top of the piano, if no one is to claim them by the end of next week, it will all be thrown away, so please check if you have left anything there.

3. The top of the Clarinet shelf is also getting too disorganised/messy. Please also clear all your irrelevant things there or it will also be thrown away.

4. The horns area, could the horns please align your horns in an orderly manner, and, we can also bring a large cloth so that your instuments can be put more towards the back.

5. The service room, should not have any bags left on the floor as they take up space and make it difficult when people are moving in and out of the room.

Here are the dates for the September practise dates.
- Monday ( ensemble ) 9am to 12pm
- Tuesday ( ensemble ) 9am to 12pm
- Wednesday ( full band ) 8am to 6pm
- Thursday (Full band) 2pm to 6pm
- Friday ( Full band ) 8am to 6pm

Please take note that Monday and Tuesday are only for ensemble groups.
Wednesday , Thursday and Friday would include the whole band.

SL's or ASL's, for Wednesday and Friday, make sure you take order from your section BEFORE FALL IN, you can also collate the orders by phone or emails, for those whom are not ordering, please make sure they bring their own food(except for those that are fasting!) . As for Muslim's, please just make sure they are well, and take care of them.
As for Thursday, make sure they've eaten before coming, as lunch will not be provided.
Food to be ordered : 1 small fries , double cheese burger/McChicken . ( $3.50 in total )

Hi band,

We have just recived notice, that there would not be band practice for the first 3 weeks of school.

So, please continue practicing at home! Over the next few weeks, we have some homework to do :

1. Interval studies: thirds, fourths, fifths and octaves.
Concerts A flat , B flat , E flat , F for all band members, and including C concert for seniors. Although you don't have irecommend, you can count the intervals from the concert note.

For e.g:
if your concert Bflat note is F, then your intervals are something like this:
Thirds: F A, G Bflat, A C, Bflat D, C E, D F, E G, F, and then go down the same notes.
Fourths: F Bflat, G C, A D, Bflat E, C F, D G, E Bflat, F, and go down.
and so on for your fifths and octaves. you can write it out if you want.

2. Work on the fundamentals, such as 24 counts for concerts Bflat Eflat F and Aflat, including concert C for seniors. Also, the MAST tonguing.

3. Songs: as usual, keep practising on your weak spots on La Storia and Blue Ridge Saga for seniors, and Fiesta Fantasy for recruits.

For those with no instruments, please do Sing&Fing, and buzzing the pitch for brasses. As for percussionists, please do your stickings or strokings. if possible, try to imagine the mallets in front of you to practice your intervals.

If any of you are unsure of how to do this, you can contact either of us, Silea/Blossom/Christine , or your SLs.

just to clear things up,

SI practices are Student Initiated practices.
they are the same as normal band practices, just that the conductors are not here, so our CM (concert mistress) a.k.a Christine will be taking the band.
which means, yes, it is still compulsory. there will be fall in, and attendance will be taken.

it is different from opening the band room for self practice.
when we open the band room for self practice, it is your choice to come and practice, or do maintainence, or the SLs can do drills if they want. it is not the same as SI.

if you can't make it for SI, we still need a MC. parent's letters are not accepted, except for certain cases. please explain it properly to your parents. thank you.

and just to confirm, the band practice dates are:
4th June (thurs) 8-6
5th June (fri) 8-5
22nd June (mon) 8-6
23rd June (tues) TBC
24th June (wed) 8-9
25th June (thurs) 10-4
26th June (fri) 10-4

24th june practice ends at 6, from 6-9 we will have the band camp bbq.

some of you were wondering, what about band camp and the band workshop that was mentioned??
okay. it's like this.
you allllll know about H1N1 right? if you don't, please come out from the rock you've been living under. anw. because of the many new cases of H1N1 in singapore, the school has had to cancel the 2nd and 3rd week activities. which, in our case, includes the band camp and workshop.
so, yeah.

thanks to the greatness of the band teachers....
the BBQ will be on the 24th June, after band prac from 6-9pm.

CCA Fair Details

Hey band!!

For the upcoming sec ones CCA fair on the 9th January, we'll have to make some preparations for it in order to attract the most number of sec ones!!=D We'll really encourage all of us to volunteer ourselves into the any 1 of the following committees that may suit you better: Story Comm, Display Board Comm, Brochures Comm, and Souvenirs Comm.

STC BAND's very first Production in the making!

Story Comm: During the CCA fair, we'll be performing an item, which includes a storyline which ties in sound effects and melodies made by different instruments as a form of introducing these instruments we have in the band! The ensemble which consists of section representatives will showcase it on the CCA fair day on 9th Jan. The story comm will plan out and decide the storyline of STCband's very first production=D

Display Board Comm: We'll be making a display board which will showcase STCband Life and those moments we've shared together. The board will include pictures and decorations on it which will most probably be put up on the band notice board outside the band room after the fair. If pictures are needed do get it from the band mates!

Brochures Comm: These brochures will be issued to all sec ones to bring home with them. Most probably, they'll be showing it to their parents=X so the content in this brochure needs to be rich and also be picture-filled. Since they are bringing these brochures home, it'll be great if we could make them look more unlike brochures but smth unique that is able to hold all the info n pics at the same time.

Souvenirs Comm: You'll be preparing the souvenirs that will be given to all the sec ones to make them "remember" visiting the band booth as much as possible and putting band as one of their choices. Also, making these souvenirs look unique and different from other CCAs' will be a challenge!

Most prefably, since there's optional prac on tues, we may need to meet to do up all that's needed. However, for the Story Comm, it needs to be done by monday so that we'll be able to make further changes required and hence we can let those who are in charged of introducing their instruments on the CCA fair practise together on tues itself.

Now that you've read through all the different committees, and know what is required for each comm, make your choice wisely. Know what's best for you and go for it, follow what's ideal for urself and inform ur SLs immediately after making your choice!=D Rem!

Our final goal is into attracting the most no. of sec ones into joining band alrite!!

Okay stc band, band camp is just a few mere days away and I hope that all of you people are looking forward to it! Together as a band, we'll have to bond together to be closer than ever and work on our pieces as SYF'09 gets closer and closer and closer. I believe with all my heart that we have the potential to do really, really well. But of course, this cannot be done without hard work! Remember! After every band practice is over, you must go home with a new skill or knowledge and when you return, you should be ready to put these new skills and knowledge into action. Only with plenty of effort, motivation, fighting spirit, co-operation, focus and hard work will stc band succeed!

Hi. You all have to bring your attire on Monday or latest Tuesday to et Mr J. Wong check if it is appropriate. It is important that you all try your very very best to get the shirt as it would make us look much more professional and presentable. 1st impressions are very important. The moment the audience sees you, they'll already start commenting and taking notice of you.

Next, practice real hard for your pieces. It's good that we have already improved quite alot since the 1st one and the 2nd. Now it's time to up our level and aim for more. I do not want to see just 70% of hard work. I want to see 100%. In fact, 100% of music, effort and commitment. We need to flow with the music, sing it out. I STRONGLY BELIEVE THAT WE CAN DO IT! GO STCBAND ENSEMBLE!!!

WHOLE BAND

On the 12th, it was said that there'll be drills practice. However, our ensemble has to go for full dress rehearsal for 75th anniversary on this day, so we will have to postpone it. We'll tell you when on a later date.

American Riversongs is starting to sound musical already. Still, more thought has to be put into it. For the shenandoah part, we've gotta know and try to put our shoes into the singer. Experience the same thing he or she is going through. Understand the words. For the other parts of the song, enjoy it. Dance to the tune. We have got to make the audience dance in their seats while we play! PERCUSSION!!! THE ENDING, bar 242 onwards, PLEASE DO NOT RUSH!!! YOU ARE NOT CATCHING THE MIDNIGHT TRAIN ARE YOU? Rest of the band, when u hear that the percs are rushing, do not follow. SLOW THEM DOWN!!!:D

BAND! Work hard too k? The next 4-5 months may sound long but trust me, it's not. It's no joke! 100% music, effort and commitment!!! We can all do it! Let's work together as One Band, One Family, One Sound and get the ultimate GOAL! for STCBAND'S SYF'09! **hinthint** Haha.

HI BAND!!!

1st of all, ALL THE BEST FOR YOUR EXAMS!!!

I know your exams are here and you all have to study. However, you cannot just forget about practicing for band. You can practice whenever you feel tired from studying and stuff. Yup(: So, here are some things you need to work on:

1. Long tones(24 counts)everyday. Breathing exercise would be the best.

2. Score Study & practice American Riversongs.

3. 6/8 Tonguing for American Riversongs.

For American Riversongs, it is time for all of us to focus on the details. Everyone can play notes already, which is of course good! Now, we want it to be better! So, focus on your dynamics, articulations and expression. PUT YOUR EMOTIONS INTO THE SONG!!! FEEL THE MUSIC!(: KNOW THE STORY BEHIND AMERICAN RIVERSONGS!
I have posted some band songs for you to enjoy. If there is anything that you like, just ask me for it and I will send it to you(: ENJOY! WORK HARD!!! I want to see an improvement when you get back from your exams. The same goes for your exams too of course!!!

now that you had all your fun during the band outing, it is time for some work! please remember to do your homework for band! MUAHAHAHA!!XD

WIND BAND
-practice 24 counts on all 4 scales (Bb concert, Eb concert, F concert and Ab concert), take note of your tone.
-hymn for a child
-sesame street.
-appeggios 1-4
-interval studies 1-4
-chromatics 1-4
-articulations(M.A.S.T)
-breathing exercise every night before you go to cleep

PERCUSSION
-attain a proper bounce
-strokings

**STEPS TO PRODUCE PROPER ARTICULAION:

where you place your tongue
how fast you pull back your tongue
how far you pull back your tongue

We will be checking on these homework when band practice starts when school reopens!!! Please do it properly and take all these seriously. If u need any help, feel free to call your seniors. I m sure they'll be glad to help!(:

Band Outing 10th June 2008

Hey stcsb members!!
Congratulations! you've made ur way thru and located tis blog! good for u:) haha. now here are the updates for the band outing (10th June 2008)

Date: 10th June 2008
Time: 12noon-6pm (meeting time: 12noon SHARP)
Venue: Sentosa (meeting place: Food Republic Vivo City level 3)

Things to note:
1. Pls have ur lunch before comin as lunch will NOT be provided.
2. You'll be wearing the SAME coloured T-shirt as your group. Group leaders will discuss amongst themselves and assign a T-shirt colour for their respective groups.

Things to bring:
1. Lots of water
2. Money (dun bring tis n you'll lose out, SOMEHOW...) ($10 will be sufficient)
3. Umbrella/ Raincoat
4. Extra Pair of shoes (no shoes, no amazing race)
5. Prepare a sandwhich each (for break)
6. EXTRA clothing/Towel (to change into after all the games)
7. Personal medication
